Working to help shrimpers

Council for Sustainable Fishing President Wayne Mershon sent this letter to S.C. Rep. Lee Hewitt expressing our strong support for his bill that would open inshore shrimping grounds off Horry County in the fall. The bill was successfully voted out of committee yesterday and will be considered by the House next week. Given the plight of shrimpers, who are struggling with shrimp imports and rising operational costs, opening these prime grounds will be extremely helpful. The bill will also greatly benefit local seafood dealers, markets and restaurants.
